Pole Pegging

In windy locations tripod poles can be pegged to dramatically increase the stability of a tipi.  Tipis over 24 feet in diameter should always have the tripod poles pegged.

This tipi tattered to pieces in storm force winds but did not topple or blow down thanks to Widgets and polepegging.

Drill a 1/2" hole through the pole starting 4" from the ground.  The drill should exit the pole 2" from the ground.
Rebar pegs may be used Pegs should be 3/8" or #10 rebar up to 30" long. A hook should be formed on one end.  The peg should be a snug fit in the drilled hole.

The peg should be driven until flush with the pole.  The hook on the peg should be turned as shown to allow peg removal.
